Parish Council vacancies

Just a note to highlight that we remain short of Councillors at Charfield, and would welcome interest from any parishioner who might feel able to volunteer.

The role of Parish Councillor is important, occasionally challenging, and vital. Parish Councillors represent their community as the first tier of local government, and have significant input into decisions made by other statutory bodies such as South Gloucestershire County Council, emergency services and government departments.

The Parish Council meets once a month in full session, and councillors can sit on other groups as parish council representatives. Most meetings are in the evening, and while there are no cash inducements it is an otherwise rewarding role.

If you would like to chat informally about the role, do give the Clerk a call.

I need to bump this and highlight that in a few weeks time we will have been short of two parish councillors for a whole year - since the May 2015 elections!

It seems unreasonable to me that a village the size of Charfield cannot find two people willing to take up these roles, and I urge you to consider whether you might offer your time.

The vacancies will shortly be advertised more widely as Casual Vacancies (yes, like the J K Rowling book).

A Casual Vacancy Notice has gone up on the usual noticeboards... this notifies the parish that an election will be held if ten electors ask for one. Thereafter we are back to filling places by co-option.
