Have I missed anything lately but there seems to be a huge pile of "rubbish" in the car park growing daily is there a good reason for this

I've just hopped onto this site to see if there was any comment on that horrendous eye-sore. An open tip is not a great look for the village is it?

I've just e-mailed the Clerk to the Charfield Parish Council, hopefully they will take a look at the situation. I'll post up any reply on here.

...was just about to suggest that myself, oxo. :)

I'll give Hannah a call and check she's got your email. We'll make it an agenda item for the next Council meeting (on 14th September, please feel free to pop by), and let you know if we come up with anything.

Hi Mark,

Hannah got back to me almost immediatly to say that the matter had been brought to the Parish Council's attention by several Charfield residents, and would let me have more news as she had it.

Whether coincidental or not, this notice appeared on the gates of the yard this evening:

"Public Notice

Nationwide Recycling Group (NRG) Ltd wish to inform the local people of Charfield of their intentions regarding the plastic material currently stored in the yard. We are installing a baler this Friday 16th July and will be baling the material for export from next week onwards and the pile will then diminish. We are seeking alternative premises for this operation and expect to re-locate this activity within a few months"

E-mail from Hannah Saunders, Clerk to Charfield Parish Council 20/07/10

"Following on from email last night, I have made contact with Tony Lees at NRG Ltd - to find out more information....

The baler that was scheduled to be installed on Fri 16th July - is actually arriving from Holland tomorrow (21 July) and will be installed / commissioned and personnel trained in it's operation.

This should be competed by the end of this week and they anticipate being able to reduce the pile of plastic waste from next week onwards....the baler can deal with up to 8tonnes of waste / hour - so they are confident that backlog will be cleared.

Due to the demand for plastic recycling - the group realise that the Charfield site isn't big enough - or convenient enough to motorway - so they are currently looking to move the operation in its entirety out to Avonmouth. This will definitely be by the end of the year - as their lease in Charfield runs out then - and they won't be renewing it.

Tony realises that the pile of plastic waste is an eyesore for the village - but wants everyone to be reassured that it is being addressed - and won't be an ongoing issue.

Trusting this answers your queries and concerns. If you have any further worries - please don't hesitate to contact me."

Seems it's not over yet....

"Just to keep you up to date our baler has been delayed until Tuesday however we should not receive much more plastic until then anyway.

We have updated the sign, any problems don’t hesitate to call."

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought this site was an eyesore. I can't pretend to know what a baler would look like but the pile of rubbish seems to growing still. Is there nothing that can be done to stop our village being turned into a tip?

Does NRG have planning consent for this operation? Does NRG's Landlord of the premises know what is going on?

Hot off the press, if not off the baler. :-|

"HI Hannah

We are meeting with the baler supplier tomorrow in order to ascertain the reason for the hold up on its delivery however I can assure you that to date no additional quantities of plastic have been received since our last communication and neither is it our intention to add to the pile until we have a way of processing it. Although the date of the balers installation has been delayed our plans to relocate from Charfield have not, it may also be worth mentioning our own frustration at the lack of progress since the bulk of our remuneration is only received on baling and shipping the material. With this in mind rest assured that we are doing all we can to speed up the process.

Best regards,

My husband tells me he saw a load being delivered to this site this afternoon. Does anyone know what the answer is to the question raised about planning permission?

Any update on what's happening Mark? The piles certainly don't seem to be diminishing.....

"Chair of Charfield PC" : Click for more detailsMark_Rosher   Aug 21st 2010 09:27

I'm given to understand the baler will now be installed at the plant in Avonmouth which has recently been secured by NRG, and the plastic will be relocated there for processing. While activities will continue at the Charfield depot until its planned closure at the end of the year, the amount of plastic on site should not increase. I am informed that NRG are operating within their planning permission and within the terms of their lease.

Is there any further news on the removal of all the rubbbish which is still in place on this site?
