|Hi,

Over the past two weeks I've had two very minor power cuts in my house in Woodlands road.

Only for a sec or two but enough to reset answer machines, computers, clock on the oven etc etc.

Is this a common thing here in Charfield? I've only lived here a month now.

Cheers

|Hi,

We do get quite a lot of power cuts. I heard that we get power surges here (don't know if that's true or not). We often have to go around and reset clocks etc. I guess it averages about a couple of power cuts a month usually only for seconds.

|Minor power cuts like that sound like off-load changeovers whereby the electrical connection to your local area is swapped from one incoming power source to another. There are moves to improve the electrical network in Charfield, some work took place last year to replace an overhead section with cable. Your electricity provider may be able to give you more information. I found the solution to irritating computer restarts was a UPS for the desktop - the laptop being immune due to its internal battery.

|You may find that you get through a lot of light bulbs too. Also, it's certainly worth considering a surge-protector for your computer. Computers don't like interruption to the supply and don't respond well to it.

|thanks - yes I do use surge protection on anything delicate. Not sure I can stretch to a UPS though. And yes I've got through a lot of lightbulbs.

Cheers
