|Hi there,

I should be moving the Woodlands estate in the New Year sometime. The house I'm buying has a chimney/fireplace (but it's been covered up) does anyone know if you can have real fires in your house n the woodlands estate? I would get a chimney sweep in to check/sweep the chimney.

Thanks
H

|Hi,

I can't speak for the whole of Woodlands Road, but the houses I've been in have gas fireplaces, and the flue is horizontal. Any chimney is purely cosmetic.
Probably worth checking what has actually been covered up.

I smelled wood smoke in the air last night so I don't think there is any restrictions on coal or wood fireplaces in the area.

Cheers

|My one regret about our house is it has no chimney. Air pollution aside, there's nothing beats a real fire. Charfield is not a smoke free area. As Andrew said though, I would have the chimney checked before you make any decisions. There are some really high efficiency / low emissions woodburners on the market now too, some that you can even use in those smoke free zones.

|Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback - the current owner of the house tells me it's a functioning fireplace but that it's been capped, bricked up and plastered over the fire entrance so I'm hoping that it will function etc.

The estate agents tell me there is a local chap called 'Scraggy the Chimney Sweep' that cover the area for chimney sweep services?

Thanks for the help.
